I don’t always draw people, but when I do, I just draw the heads.
So I thought I’d branch out a bit from the usual cats and dogs, and add a bit of variety to my repertoire. I have noticed that men are easier to draw in this whimsical style, which is a total 180 from my historical stance on gender rendering.
I rather like the two guys at the top. I think they might be in a band. The one on the right is obviously the drummer, and Iggy, on the left, is probably the bass player. He’s my favorite. But that’s no surprise– I’ve always had a thing for bass players. I think they might also be British, which is another demographic that I currently fancy. (I blame you, BBC.)
I had a lot of fun inventing faces, but I’m not really sure where I’ll go next. Women? Children? Portraits of actual humans? Or maybe even people with– wait for it– bodies under their heads?
This here is Landon Marcus, musician, artist, performer, cosmic wanderer, and all-around Super Cool Dude. He is– like seriously– one of the ten people that would be allowed on my personal island, if I had one. In fact, I would have his residence built right across the courtyard from mine, and he could live there with his girlfriend (who happens to be my BFF) and as many cats as they wanted.
So anyway, Landon Marcus, Super Cool Dude Extraordinaire, has commissioned an illustration to adorn the promotional materials of his new album. This is my first go at “characterizing” him. When he saw it, his reaction went like-so: “Aweso-ome! You totally nailed the hair.” To which I replied, “Yah, totes. I’m really glad you have such interesting hair so that I could draw it thusly.”
So now I need to finish this project. It has to be really super cool. In the meantime, you should check out the music of Landon Marcus. And then come back and tell me if I have captured his Super Cool Dudeness.
This week on Illustration Friday, the topic is talent. I figured I’d draw some musical penguins. The little tuba player was running late, and didn’t make the group shot. But he was adorable, even though I apparently have no idea what a tuba looks like. I need to revisit my source imagery and try again before he joins the rest of the orchestra, which is led by a very talented conductor.
In related news, ta-da! I am a brand-spankin-new Content Creator on the Illustration Friday blog. (If you draw pictures, but aren’t familiar with Illustration Friday, click thee the link, and post-haste! It’s a great site that suggests a new topic every week and everyone submits their own interpretation. But you may have figured that out already from the context clues– you’re pretty smart. You’re also a snappy dresser. And I like what’s happening with your hair right now.) But I digress…
My first post goes live on Thursday, and I’ll be selecting a new artist each week to showcase. It’ll be awesome. You should check it out. By the way, have you been working out? I thought so.
And hey, thanks for stopping by. It was really good to see you–
and really, I mean it, you look great.
